Before a trip, you need to know three things: whether your passport is good enough, whether you need a visa or travel permit, and how long you can stay. The answers are spread across government websites that use different words for similar things, and visa agencies are happy to charge you to fill in a form you could do yourself.
Cleared to Travel puts the answers in one place. Tell it your passport and your trip, and it gives you a clear answer for each stop, with links to the official sites only.
What we cover
We cover 6 passports (the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) going to 16 destinations, including all 29 countries in the Schengen area.
The checker also counts your Schengen days using the 90 days in any 180 rule, checks your passport dates against each country's rules, and tells you which passport to use if you have two.
How we're different
- Official sources only. Every rule is checked against the destination's government and your own government. How we check our rules.
- Dated. Every answer shows when we last checked it, and every change goes in our public rule changes log.
- Private. Your passport details and trips are worked out on your device and never sent to us.
- Independent. We're not a visa agency, and we never charge for permits or link to anyone who does.
How it's paid for
The site is free and has no sign-up. It's paid for by adverts, which always sit below the answer, never above it. We block adverts from visa agencies. In future we may link to travel insurance or eSIM providers, and we'll say clearly when a link earns us money.
A planning guide, not legal advice
We work hard to keep every rule accurate, but border officers make the final decision, and rules can change at short notice. Always confirm with the official source before you travel. If you spot something wrong, use the "Report something wrong" button on any rule, or contact us.
