Travelling to Russia

We don't cover Russia in the checker. Here's the short version.

Russia isn't in the Schengen area. US, UK, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand passports aren't on Russia's e-visa list, so you'd need a full visa from a Russian embassy or visa centre. Russia's foreign ministry lists Irish passports for its e-visa, which allows stays of up to 30 days. The US, UK, Canadian and New Zealand governments all advise against all travel to Russia, so read your own government's advice before planning anything.

Days in Russia don't count towards your 90 days in the Schengen area.

Read your own government's travel advice before you plan anything: GOV.UK, the US State Department, the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Canada, Smartraveller or SafeTravel.

Checked 26 October 2026 against Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, US Department of State, GOV.UK, Government of Canada and SafeTravel.
