Things that could change this

  • Are you a citizen of any other country, even if you don't have that country's passport?
If yes: Use your Brazilian passport
Brazil treats you as a Brazilian citizen and expects you to enter and leave on a valid Brazilian passport, which needs no visa. If you use your other passport instead, you need any visa it requires, and Brazil can give you a visitor's time limit and fine you for overstaying.
  • Are you taking any medicines with you, including cold, flu, allergy or pain remedies?
If yes: Bring prescriptions for your medicines
Bring your prescription or a letter from your doctor, keep medicines in their original packs in your hand luggage, and bring only enough for your trip. Health inspectors can check them when you arrive.
  • Are you taking a vape or e-cigarette?
If yes: Leave your vape at home
Vapes, e-cigarettes, refills and parts are banned in Brazil, and you can't bring them in, even in your luggage. Customs can take them off you.
  • Is a child under 18 travelling with only one parent, or without their parents?
If yes: Carry the other parent's consent
If a child is travelling without both parents, carry written consent from the parent who isn't travelling and the child's birth certificate. Children who are also Brazilian, including children born abroad to a Brazilian parent, need a formal travel authorisation to leave Brazil, signed at a Brazilian consulate or notarised and apostilled.

Good to know

Get your entry stamp. Check that the officer stamps your passport when you arrive. Without a stamp you can be fined when you leave. Overstaying means a fine for each extra day.

Have proof of your plans. Border officers can ask to see a ticket out of Brazil, where you're staying, and proof you can pay for your trip, such as recent bank statements.

Yellow fever vaccine recommended. Brazil doesn't ask for a vaccination certificate. Yellow fever vaccination is recommended if you're visiting forests or rural areas: get it at least 10 days before you go. Some countries you visit next may ask for proof.

Declare cash over US$10,000. If you carry more than US$10,000 in cash, or the same in other currencies, fill in the online customs declaration (e-DBV) and show it when you arrive.
