Things that could change this

  • Are you taking any medicines with you, including cold, flu, allergy or pain remedies?
If yes: Carry the prescription for your medicines
You can bring medicines for your own use. For controlled (psychotropic) medicines, you must show the prescription at customs. Keep medicines in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription. Medical cannabis isn't allowed.
  • Are you taking a vape or e-cigarette?
If yes: Leave your vape at home
You can't bring e-cigarettes, vapes or vape liquids into Mexico. Customs will take them, and you could be fined or detained.
  • Is a child under 18 travelling with only one parent, or without their parents?
If yes: Carry proof you can travel with your child
Children who are Mexican citizens or live in Mexico need a consent form (Formato SAM) or a notarised consent letter to leave Mexico without both parents. For other children, officials may ask for a birth certificate and a consent letter from any parent who isn't there. Get the letter notarised, and translated into Spanish if the child travels without either parent.

Visitax if you visit Quintana Roo. Going to Cancún, Cozumel or anywhere else in Quintana Roo? You must pay the state's Visitax tourist tax. Keep your proof of entry. You need your entry stamp, or your e-gate ticket, to leave Mexico. If you lose it with your passport, you'll pay a fee to replace it at an immigration office. GOV.UK puts the fee at about 700 pesos.

Entry fee is usually in your ticket. Most visitors pay a migration entry fee. It's normally included in airline and cruise tickets. If you arrive by land, you pay it at the border, at a bank or online.
